Back in the US and Back on the Road.

What a time we had overseas. 5 weeks of shows, travel, food, drinks, parties, afterparties, sleep, no-sleep, highs, lows and everything in between. The attacks in Paris we no doubt a low-light of our European Tour. We were safely about 4 hours outside of Paris at the time of the attacks. It was a little too close to comfort and we’re all still processing the sadness and loss suffered in this misguided act of terror. The night following the attack we had over 150 ticket cancellations for our show, but over 100 people still came out to rock with us. It was a highlight of the trip for me. Our show that night ended with the crowd on their feet singing along to I Saw the Light and Chris soloing to wild applause with the French flag draped over his shoulders. People sang with tears in their eyes and so did we. It was moving to connect with other people in such a peaceful and joyous way.

There have always been troubled times and we are no doubt finding ourselves in situations that will test us as human beings. But, finding moments of compassion and understanding with other people is a beautiful thing. Violence only instills fear, it doesn’t solve anything. And with the Holiday season getting close, now is as good of a time as any for all of us to share joy and happiness with everyone around us. We all have our own struggles, but having a shoulder to lean on helps in all regards.

For me, being in a foreign land that had just been attacked and seeing people come out with their cowboy boots and hats on really showed the perseverance of the human spirit. Where they did their best to converse with us in their sometimes broken English and vice verse, us trying to converse in our less than stellar French. Hanging out over beers and wine, talking about everything from Edith Piaf to Gram Parsons and feeling united in the spirit of enjoying the moment and a heightened appreciation of the time we still had to spend. It’s something that I’ll never forget.

We’re back in the US and there’s no rest for the weary. We’re actually quite excited to be returning to a few places we visited earlier this year and even hitting a few new markets on this run. Here’s where you can find us Dec 4th thru Dec 11th.

GGG’s 6th Annual Tribute to Hank Williams – Tickets are on sale now!!

We are so excited to announce the dates for this years Tribute to Hank Williams performances. Due to changes in this years tour schedule we didn’t get to perform our annual Tribute to Hank B-Day show this year in Northampton, MA, so we’re brining it to you in December. Plus, we’re visiting a few new cities as well.

We’ve also added a section to the show devoted to songs written about, or that reference, ole Hank Williams. This started last year when we added Fred Eaglesmith’s “Mrs. Hank Williams” to the set list and loved the response we got from fans. We picked some real classics this year, a lot of old favorites and dusted off a couple more Hank obscurities. So, be prepared to cry in your beers, two step on the dance floor and enjoy the timeless music of a true American treasure.

As many of you know we started this tradition to honor Hank Williams, the singer, the songwriter, the American wild man, on the days of the two shows he never got to play: New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. The world bid farewell to Hank on Jan 1st, 1953 and we strive to keep his music alive and pay our respects to one of our biggest songwriting inspirations as we close out and welcome each passing and coming year, respectively. This year will be no different, except we’ve moved our New Year’s Eve show up to The Riverwalk Cafe in Nashua, NH and we’ll be doing just one show in Cambridge, MA this year at one of the finest venues around: The Sinclair.

Help GGG Get a New Tour Van!!

Howdy folks,
Our van is the 5th member of the band and it’s something that we rely on to get us from city to city, safely and on time. It’s our horse, our trusty steed and something that often feels like our home when we’re on the road. After 300,000 amazing miles our current van, The Old Gray Goose, is on it’s last legs. It’s up on the lift at the mechanics as I am writing this letter.

After weighing our options on what to do next and not wanting to slow our pace of progress and touring, we’ve decided to launch this campaign through Pledge Music to help raise the funds needed to get us a new band vehicle and keep the band on the road.

We really want to make this experience special, so we’ve put together a bunch of exclusive items to offer you in return for your generosity.

Things like VIP Concert Experiences, an exclusive Rufus T-Shirt, a Season Pass to the Narrows Center in Fall River, House Concerts, Naming the Van and a lot more!! You can even become an honorary Hersch for a day, I mean, how cool is that?

Take a look at what we’ve put together for you and let’s have some fun making this project come to fruition. We thank you in advance for your generosity and for your continued support. 2015 has already been an incredible year and we really looking forward to keeping things moving in an upward and ongoing direct. With your help we can make this happen.

Let’s get the wheels in motion!! –Ward, Paul, Josh & Chris

Twangin’ out with GHS Strings!!

We are very excited to become a GHS Strings Artist.

The first pack of strings I ever owned was a set of GHS Boomers that my parents bought me on a trip to Times Square in NYC. I was probably 8 or 9 years old at the time and was totally sold on the cool packaging and the idea that this would take me one step closer to my rock ‘n’ roll idols.

It would be another 15 years before I actually learned to play the guitar. What can I say, sometimes I work slowly! But, I’ve been a GHS fan since the very moment my desire to make music started turning into something real. Every time I see a pack of GHS strings I can’t help, but think about that day in Times Square.

Twang on!! -Ward
